‘The thing that does change from time to time is the materials. The materials have changed because you go right back to the beginning, aeroplanes were built of timber, wire, and linen, then they moved on to metal frames, then aluminium, Alcan was invented and that brought a totally new method of building aeroplanes, and now, these days you’re moving onto the next stage, which is composite materials, they’re not metal anymore, they’re being built of these new, carbon fibres and things.’
